Course

Generative Design for Additive Manufacturing

Autodesk

This course delves into generative design for Additive Manufacturing, providing insights into the CAD design process and the mindset required for generative design. Through Autodesk® Fusion 360™, participants will gain a deeper understanding of generative design, exploring its parameters and applying the generative design thinking process to create 3D printed metal parts.

  • Explore the basics of geometry creation and generative design
  • Learn advanced Fusion 360 CAD workflows
  • Understand the generative setup and post-processing techniques for additive manufacturing
  • Develop knowledge of generative design outcomes and working with 3D printed designs

By completing the course, participants can take their learning further by enrolling in the Autodesk Generative Design for Manufacturing Specialization, unlocking an additional Autodesk Credential to showcase their expertise.

Generative Design for Additive Manufacturing
Course Modules

This course comprises four modules covering the basics of generative design, defining a generative setup, working with generative design outcomes, and post-processing for additive manufacturing.

What is Generative Design?

This module provides an overview of generative design and the basics of geometry creation. Participants will learn about the Fusion 360 User Interface, sketching, creating solid bodies, and collaborating on designs. Through practice exercises and quizzes, they'll gain hands-on experience in generative design.

Defining a Generative Setup

In this module, participants will define a generative setup, learning about study materials, generative objectives, obstacle and preserve regions, and manufacturing methods. They'll also explore the Generative Design workspace and solve generative studies, enhancing their skills through practical exercises and quizzes.

Working with Generative Design Outcomes

Week 3 covers working with generative design outcomes, focusing on exploring the user interface, viewing outcomes, creating 3D designs, and collaborating with others. Participants will practice creating and editing designs, as well as exporting mesh designs, further refining their understanding of generative design outcomes.

Post Process a Generative Design for Additive Manufacturing

This final module delves into post-processing a generative design for additive manufacturing. Participants will learn about creating, editing, and manipulating forms, as well as exporting designs for production. The module also includes a course assessment and peer review challenge to apply their knowledge.
