The "Effective Engagement of Civil Society in Development" online course delves into the essential role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in international development. It offers a comprehensive understanding of strategies to ensure effective engagement and meaningful contribution of CSOs in development processes. Through a series of five modules, participants will explore the international commitments, CSO enabling environment, development effectiveness, and multi-stakeholder dialogue.
Upon completion, participants can request a certificate extended by the Task Team on CSO Development Effectiveness & Enabling Environment, empowering them to apply the acquired knowledge to their own context.

The first module provides an introduction to effective civil society engagement in international development. Participants will explore the different types of CSOs in development and understand the relevance of development arenas. They will also examine the international commitments and the principles of effective development cooperation.
The second module focuses on multi-stakeholder dialogue as a key component of the CSO enabling environment. Participants will explore good practice examples, understand the challenges and opportunities of multi-stakeholder dialogue, and engage in activities to enhance their understanding.
In the third module, participants will delve into CSO development effectiveness, accountability, and transparency. They will explore the responsibilities of CSOs in ensuring their effectiveness and examine good practice examples to understand the challenges and opportunities both on the ground and at the global level.
The fourth module delves into official development cooperation with CSOs, focusing on the role of donors. Participants will gain insights into effective donor engagement with civil society, explore good practice examples, and understand the impact of donor support to CSOs in different countries.
The final module explores the legal and regulatory environment for CSOs. Participants will understand the role of governments in creating an enabling legal and regulatory environment, examine good practice examples, and compare these examples to their own environment.
