SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, presents significant risks for senior housing communities and their residents and staff. This comprehensive course, developed in partnership with the Baltimore City Health Department, is designed to provide property owners, managers, service coordinators, and other stakeholders in senior housing with the knowledge and resources needed to address the unique challenges brought about by the pandemic.
Through a series of modules, learners will gain insights into developing emergency preparedness plans specific to COVID-19, implementing effective infection prevention strategies, understanding regulations around managing occupancy and community access, and promoting staff and resident well-being during the pandemic.

This course is structured into six modules that cover COVID-19 background, infection prevention, housing operations, promoting well-being, health department partnerships, and a final assessment.
The first module provides an overview of the background and challenges of COVID-19 in senior housing, emphasizing the development of emergency preparedness plans. It also covers unique response challenges specific to senior housing communities.
Module two focuses on infection prevention strategies, including outbreak prevention, control measures, staffing considerations, communication strategies, and creating infection prevention and staff contingency plans.
The third module explores senior housing operations, encompassing managing occupancy, community access, promoting pandemic-safe behavior, and evaluating community operations policies.
Module four addresses strategies for supporting staff and resident well-being, service coordination, safe visitation strategies, and implementing well-being strategies for staff and residents.
Module five highlights health department partnerships, vaccination guidance, and resources for senior housing communities, including collaboration with health departments and identifying partnerships.
The final module is the assessment component of the course.
