Become an EMT

Gain a thorough introduction to the emergency medical services system, basic medical terminology, human anatomy, communication specific to EMS, vital signs, and patient assessment.

Develop knowledge and skills to assess and stabilize certain types of patients for transport, including medical patient assessment, pharmacologic principles, airway physiology, respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies, neurologic and endocrine emergencies.

Acquire the knowledge and skills to assess and stabilize patients in shock, cardiac arrest, toxicologic ingestion, environmental emergencies, and understand gastrointestinal, renal, and reproductive system symptoms.

Learn about the mechanics and physics of trauma on the human body, trauma system, specific injuries based on body parts, trauma by system, patient history and physical exam, and mass casualty incidents.

Cover high-stress patient populations including pregnant patients and pediatric care, hazmat situations, patient extrication, and effective note writing about patient care.

Prepare for the National Registry exam by reviewing course materials, using patient care checklists, completing patient care scenarios, and practicing peer review on care plans.
