Dynamic Public Speaking is a four-course specialization that provides comprehensive instruction, experience, and practice to develop and deliver compelling presentations. Drawing from established knowledge in communication, rhetoric, linguistics, and argumentation, the course balances proven ideas with speech practice.

The course is designed to help speakers at all levels, including those who are nervous about public speaking. It aims to guide individuals from novice to confident communicators by slowly working up specific skills that can be practiced multiple times before putting together a longer speech.

Course Modules

This course comprises four modules that cover a range of essential speaking skills, from crafting impactful presentations to delivering moving speeches.

Introduction to Public Speaking

This module provides a proven framework for crafting and delivering impactful presentations. It aims to diminish public speaking anxiety, leverage rehearsal methods to develop a robust, engaging speaking voice, and execute speeches with dynamic movements. Learners also gain access to an immersive VR experience for practicing in a simulated auditorium or conference room.

Speaking to inform: Discussing complex ideas with clear explanations and dynamic slides

Informative speaking is the focus of this module, teaching learners to explain complex ideas vividly and accessibly, design clear and compelling presentation slides, convey passion for a topic while maintaining professional credibility, and speak dynamically from notes and/or a manuscript. Learners will record speeches and provide and receive peer feedback.

Speaking to persuade: Motivating audiences with solid arguments and moving language

This module focuses on persuasive speaking, teaching learners to design persuasive speeches that address problems and motivate audience members. It covers strategic use of rhetorical style and delivery of passionate and compelling speeches. Learners will record speeches and provide and receive peer feedback.

Speaking to Inspire: Ceremonial and Motivational Speeches

In this module, learners will learn to compose and deliver moving speeches that praise core audience values through evidence, storytelling, and humor. They will also be able to write eloquent passages and speak fluidly from a well-prepared manuscript or memory. Learners will record speeches and provide and receive peer feedback.
