Introduction to Imagemaking

Introduction to Imagemaking
Course Modules

This course is divided into four modules: Image-based Research, Making Images, Composition is Relational, and Designing a Book with Your Images. Each module focuses on specific aspects of imagemaking, from research and creation to composition and book design.

Week 1: Image-based Research

This module introduces the concept of image-based research and its importance in the graphic design context. Students will learn about peer review, visual research, and creating mood boards, setting the foundation for their imagemaking journey.

Week 2: Making Images

During this module, students will delve into the process of making images. They will explore various methods, techniques, and materials, and learn to represent concepts through images. The module encourages creative experimentation and the development of a unique visual style.

Week 3: Composition is Relational

Emphasizing the relational aspect of composition, this module delves into the intricacies of creating meaningful compositions. Students will explore hierarchy, scale, space, narrative, and page spreads, learning to intentionally drive connotations and meanings through their compositions.

Week 4: Designing a Book with Your Images

In this final module, students will focus on designing a book with their created images. They will learn about complex composition, bookbinding techniques, and the process of creating and assembling book spreads. The module culminates in the completion of an image-based book, showcasing the culmination of their imagemaking journey.
