Global Health Policy

In this comprehensive course, learners delve into the principles and theories of global health problems and governance. They analyze major challenges and controversies in improving global population health and apply quantitative methods to interpret issues for policy-making. The course covers topics such as health and foreign policy, health governance, acute disease surveillance, non-communicable diseases, burden of disease, universal health coverage, health systems strengthening, health financing, and human resources for health and aging.

Upon completion, participants will be equipped to summarize key issues and challenges in global health policy and governance, explain the double burden of disease, and apply core elements of universal health coverage within aging societies.

The course comprises four modules covering global health policy and governance, pandemics and health security responses, universal health coverage in relation to aging, and the future of Japan's health system.

Global Health Policy and Governance

Module 1: Global Health Policy and Governance

This module provides an overview of the global health transition, epidemiological transition, evolution of global health, and global health governance. It explores challenges in global health policy and Japan’s commitment to global health. Learners analyze proposals for the G7 Summit and complete quizzes to reinforce their understanding.

Pandemics and Health Security Responses

Module 2: Pandemics and Health Security Responses

Participants delve into the responses to pandemics and health security, outbreak investigations, lessons from past pandemics, real-time research responses, and the impact of disasters on health and human security. They also examine acute and long-term health effects and complete quizzes to assess their knowledge.

Universal Health Coverage in the Context of Aging

Module 3: Universal Health Coverage in the Context of Aging

This module covers the overview and concepts of universal health coverage, financial risk protection, health service coverage, equity, aging, and case studies from Japan and Bangladesh. It concludes with new policy directions and quizzes to reinforce learning.

The Future of Japan's Health System: Sustaining Good Health with Equity at Low Cost

Module 4: The Future of Japan's Health System

Learners explore the achievements and challenges of universal health coverage in Japan, understanding health system performance, population health, cost containment, service quality, and the impact of population aging. The module provides insights into future directions and includes quizzes for assessment.
