Course

Database systems

Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México

This specialized program in Database Systems is designed for computer professionals aspiring to enter the field of information systems. Over four comprehensive courses, participants will gain the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize various types of databases and information systems to meet the diverse requirements of businesses. From transactional relational databases to NoSQL technologies, this program covers the essential aspects of database systems, business intelligence, data warehousing, and data-intensive applications.

Through engaging video content and practical exercises, learners will develop expertise in designing, testing, and implementing analytical, transactional, and NoSQL database systems according to specific business needs. They will also master programming in SQL and gain proficiency in utilizing tools like MySQL, Hadoop ecosystem, RapidMiner, MongoDB, Neo4j, SAPIQ, and Cassandra. The program also focuses on creating data models, extracting, transforming, and loading data to a data warehouse, and executing predictive analysis with RapidMiner. Moreover, participants will explore the differences between relational and NoSQL databases, and learn to implement various types of NoSQL databases such as key-value, columnar, document, and graph databases.

By the conclusion of the program, learners will be equipped to propose, design, and develop highly reliable information systems that support scalability, maintainability, security, and reliability, utilizing the latest information technologies. Whether aspiring to be specialized information system consultants or data scientists, this program provides a comprehensive foundation for success in the field of database systems.

Course Modules

The course covers four modules, including relational database systems, business intelligence and data warehousing, NoSQL systems, and designing data-intensive applications, providing learners with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to excel in the field of database systems.

Relational database systems

Welcome to the specialization course Relational Database Systems. This course equips learners with the skills to design, test, and implement analytical, transactional, or NoSQL database systems according to business requirements. Participants will use the MYSQL language and MySQL Workbench to gain practical experience in programming reliable, scalable, and maintainable applications and resources. If using Mac/IOS, a virtual machine like VirtualBox or Vmware is recommended.

Business intelligence and data warehousing

Welcome to the specialization course Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing. This course focuses on identifying, designing, and developing analytical information systems, including Business Intelligence with descriptive analysis on data warehouses. Participants will learn to create a Star or Snowflake data model diagram, extract, transform, and load data to a data warehouse, and execute predictive analysis with RapidMiner. Practical experience includes using MySQL, RapidMiner, Excel, and the Hortonworks Hadoop framework. Mac/IOS users may require a virtual machine.

NoSQL systems

Welcome to the specialization course of NoSQL Systems. Participants will gain insight into the differences between relational and NoSQL databases and learn to implement key-value, columnar, document, and graph databases. Emphasizing NoSQL data modeling and application-specific queries, the course equips learners to optimize query processing using Atomic Aggregates and denormalization. Practical experience includes using MongoDB, Neo4j, SAP IQ, and Cassandra. Mac/IOS users may require a virtual machine.

Designing data-intensive applications

Welcome to the specialization course of Designing Data-Intensive Applications. This course enables learners to propose, design, and develop highly reliable information systems, considering the type and volume of data, response time, type of processing, and queries. Practical experience includes using MySQL Workbench, RapidMiner, the Hadoop framework, Hortonworks, and MongoDB. Mac/IOS users may require VirtualBox.
