Tools for Exploratory Data Analysis in Business

This course introduces learners to essential tools for processing business data and obtaining actionable insights. It emphasizes the development of an analytic mindset and the ability to appraise the value of datasets for addressing business problems. The course covers the usage of software platforms such as PowerBI, Alteryx, and RStudio for exploring exploratory data analytics (EDA).

The course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the following:

  • Appraising the value of datasets using summary statistics and data visualizations.
  • Operating business analytic software applications for exploratory data analysis.

Course Modules

This course comprises four modules that cover the development of an analytic mindset, the usage of PowerBI, Alteryx, and RStudio for ETL and EDA processes, and the application of software tools to address business problems.

Course Orientation and Module 1: Analytics Mindset

This module focuses on developing an analytic mindset for approaching business problems. It covers key terms in business analytics, the data analytics modeling pipeline, and an introduction to the course data set. Learners will also be introduced to software for download and will participate in an orientation quiz.

Module 2: ETL and EDA Using PowerBI

Module 2 introduces learners to ETL and EDA using PowerBI. It covers topics such as examining data with Power Query Editor, data modeling, univariate and multivariate plots, and publishing a PowerBI report. Learners will gain practical experience in using PowerBI for ETL and exploratory data analysis.

Module 3: ETL and EDA Using RStudio

Module 3 provides an in-depth exploration of ETL and EDA using RStudio. Topics include data examination, data formats, date formats, outlier analysis, data models and joins, and various types of plots for data visualization. Learners will gain hands-on experience in using RStudio for ETL and exploratory data analysis.

Module 4: ETL and EDA Using Alteryx

In Module 4, learners will delve into ETL and EDA using Alteryx. This module covers data quality examination, data joins, outlier analysis, and various techniques for creating interactive charts and summary tables. Learners will also learn to save plots and tables to a report using Alteryx.
