Ethical Leadership Through Giving Voice to Values

This action-oriented course, offered by the University of Virginia, introduces Giving Voice to Values (GVV), a groundbreaking approach to values-driven leadership development. Course Modules

This course comprises four modules that guide participants through understanding GVV, learning from successes and failures, developing scripts and action plans, and addressing challenges and opportunities with the GVV approach.

What Is Giving Voice to Values? Why and How It Works

Module 1 introduces participants to Giving Voice to Values, explaining why and how it works. Learners will explore the three GVV "flips," the seven GVV pillars, and engage in exercises to understand the pillars of values, purpose, and more. Throughout the module, participants will learn from real-life examples and gain insights from interviews with industry experts.

Recognizing and Learning From Your Success and Failures

Module 2 focuses on recognizing and learning from successes and failures. Participants will delve into GVV pillars like choice, normalization, self-knowledge, and alignment. They will analyze case studies, engage in exercises, and develop their GVV personal-professional profiles to understand the nuances of applying GVV principles in different scenarios.

Developing Scripts and Action Plans

Module 3 guides participants in developing scripts and action plans. It explores the pillars of voice, reasons, rationalizations, and levers for influence/impact. Participants will analyze GVV case studies, engage in exercises, and conclude the module with a comprehensive understanding of how to effectively voice and enact their values.

Addressing Challenges and Opportunities with the GVV Approach

Module 4 addresses challenges and opportunities with the GVV approach in values-driven leadership. Participants will learn from industry experts, gain insights into implementing GVV for senior leaders, and develop their Giving Voice to Values implementation plans. This module provides a comprehensive understanding of how to apply GVV in real-world leadership scenarios.
