Course Modules

The course modules cover a range of topics including purpose and governance, organizational structure, growth and organizational life cycles, and the external environment, providing learners with a comprehensive understanding of organizational management.

Course Orientation

Welcome to the Course. This module provides an introduction to the course, allowing learners to familiarize themselves with the structure and expectations. It also includes information about the professors, the syllabus, and the online education platform at Gies College of Business.

MODULE 1: PURPOSE AND GOVERNANCE

This module delves into the purpose and governance of organizations, exploring the building of purpose into an organization, the concept of mission statements, and different views of organizational governance. Learners will also engage in practice quizzes and a final quiz to assess their understanding of the content.

MODULE 2: ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Exploring the different types of organizational structures, this module introduces learners to contingency theory, functional structure, divisional structure, and matrix structure. It also covers other structural variations and includes a quiz and a peer review assignment to reinforce learning.

MODULE 3: GROWTH AND ORGANIZATIONAL LIFE CYCLES

This module focuses on growth and organizational life cycles, covering growth challenges, mechanistic and organic designs, and integrating mechanisms. Learners will engage in practice quizzes and a final quiz to evaluate their understanding of the concepts.

Module 4: EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT

Addressing the external environment, this module explores elements of the external environment, strategies for designing for uncertainty, resource dependence theory, and disruptive innovation. Learners will also participate in practice quizzes and a final quiz to consolidate their knowledge.
